Our Team
Bill Marino has over a decade of experience valuing and structuring intellectual property deals, for both public and private companies.
Bill is the founder and a principal of Pragmatus, LLC (2010-present), a privately-held intellectual property licensing firm. Pragmatus served as the operating partner for the former bond holders of Silicon Graphics, Inc. in a licensing program that generated over $115 M for its shareholders . Pragmatus separately generated approximately $50 M from its own portfolios. While at Pragmatus, Bill was also the chief intellectual property officer of Object Video, Inc., a privately-held video analytics software company located in Reston, VA. Bill raised the capital to fund a new corporate revenue strategy and was the chief architect of the Object Video patent licensing strategy that resulted in over $110 M of revenue and a sale of the assets.
Prior to Pragmatus, Bill served as partner and General Counsel for Altitude Capital Partners, a private investment fund focused on investing in intellectual property, from 2005 to 2010. Bill was responsible for identifying, negotiating and structuring approximately $60 M of investments. While at Altitude, Bill was named CEO to several of the fund's portfolio companies, in which he was primarily responsible for overall revenue generation by implementing a patent licensing strategy. One of these companies was Saxon Innovations, LLC (2008-2010), a private company that licensed former AMD patents to the cell phone industry, generating licensing revenues in excess of $115M in less than 3 years. Prior to Altitude, Bill practiced law as a patent litigator.
Bill also served on the Board of Directors for Unwired Planet, Inc., providing strategic guidance in intellectual property licensing and corporate matters (2013 to 2015).
